1. Service Description

SanctionSignal is a sanctions screening tool that allows users to search individuals and companies against UK (FCDO), EU, and US (OFAC) sanctions lists. The service is operated by Helium22.

2. Disclaimer

Important: SanctionSignal is provided as an informational tool only. Results should not be considered legal advice. While we make every effort to keep sanctions data current and accurate, we cannot guarantee completeness or real-time accuracy. Users are responsible for conducting their own due diligence and seeking professional legal advice for compliance decisions.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Use the service only for legitimate compliance and due diligence purposes.
  • Not attempt to circumvent rate limits, security measures, or access controls.
  • Not use automated tools to scrape or bulk-extract data beyond the provided API.
  • Not share your account credentials or API keys with unauthorised third parties.
4. Account Registration

You must provide accurate information when registering. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and recovery key. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account.

5. Subscription and Payment
  • Subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe.
  • Individual plan: as displayed on the pricing page.
  • Business plan: as displayed on the pricing page.
  • Prices may be changed with 30 days notice.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds are provided at the discretion of Helium22.
6. Charity Access

Registered charities may be eligible for free access. Charity status is granted at the sole discretion of SanctionSignal administrators and may be revoked at any time.

7. API Usage

The API is provided for programmatic access to the sanctions search. Rate limits apply. API keys are bound to your account and must not be shared. We reserve the right to revoke API access for misuse.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Helium22 shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or related to your use of the service.

We do not warrant that the sanctions data is complete, accurate, or current. Any reliance on the results is at your own risk.

9. Intellectual Property

The SanctionSignal application, its design, and code are the property of Helium22. Sanctions data is sourced from public government records and is not our intellectual property.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms or for any other reason at our discretion.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Payments and refunds

Subscriptions are paid for by card through Stripe; card details are entered on Stripe's own pages and are never seen or stored by us. A subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel it, which you can do at any time from Manage billing on your Account page; it then runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Every price we show includes UK VAT at 20%; your invoice shows the net amount and the VAT separately.

The service starts as soon as you pay. By paying, you ask us to begin straight away, and you accept that the payment becomes non-refundable once the service has been used. The service has been used once a sanctions search has been run after paying, on the website or through the API, by you or by anyone in your team.

If no search has been run since paying, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of the payment, using the Request a refund button on your Account page. Your subscription is switched off while the request is considered and will not renew. Every request is reviewed by a person; an approved refund is returned to the card you paid with, the subscription is cancelled and its invoice is voided. A renewal payment continues a subscription you already have and is not refundable: cancel before the renewal date if you do not want it.

Changing plan or seats. If you move to the Business plan or add seats, the difference for the rest of the current period is charged to your card at once; if that payment fails, nothing is changed. If you move to the Individual plan or remove seats, the difference is credited against your next invoice. A change is not in itself a new purchase.

Nothing in this section takes away any right the law gives you that cannot be excluded.
